Green film festivals put the planet in focus

The environment is on everyone’s mind these days and this is clearly evident in the number of green festivals being held around the world. As you read this, at least two major environmentally themed festivals are taking place around the globe The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) opened on Saturday with an eco theme as filmmakers from around the world greeted Japanese movie fans on a ceremonial ‘green carpet.’ While the majority of films being shown here do not have an environment theme, the organisers are using carbon- reducing measures with all films being screened with electricity generated by wind energy.

Turin in Italy is once again holding an environmental film festival with the 11th Festival CinemAmbiente. The audience will have the opportunity to learn about the health conditions of humanity and the planet through images, films, sounds, conferences, exhibitions, workshops and discussion panels. Unlike TIFF, All films screened have an environmental focus. Many organisations and universities hold environmental film festivals to inspire new, youthful talent, to reach into their communities and document what is happening. If this is your passion check out sites such as earthecho.org and environmentalfilm.org .and keep an eye on this site for more info.
